DC Farm to School Week

Kindergarden and pre-k students from Ross Elementary School arrive on Arcadia Farm in Mt. Vernon, Va. The students visited for the day from a D.C. public school to learn about healthy eating and sustainable agriculture as part of the D.C. Farm to School Week initiative. Liz Whitehurst leads a discussion on October 6 about the variety of food grown on farms with a group of elementary schoolers from the District. She asked how many students had eaten breakfast that morning, and less than a third raised their hands. (Inside the Shell/Hannah Morgan)

Ian, who didn't know how to spell his last name, takes a break at the Woodlawn Plantation Thursday, during a morning of picking carrots and digging for worms. His kindergarden class visited the farm to learn where their food comes from, and how to make healthy and sustainable eating choices. (Inside the Shell/Hannah Morgan)
