NPR's Anne Garrels may not have had the most interesting story of the year but she produced an audio slideshow that still captivates an audience with beautiful photos, subtleties in visual movements and moving diagrams. While having lovely photographs and sophisticated editing style is a must for creating a great final product, I think the diagrams put this piece over the top because it better educates the audience. With photos the audience can feel more of the emotional significance of the story, however the diagrams can help illustrate the facts that are especially hard to understand in a strictly verbal platform.
