The University of Maryland Health Center hosts the De-stress for Success! event on Oct. 13, 2011, providing acupuncture, meditation and massage for students and faculty. Acupuncture, a traditional form of Chinese medicine, has been available at the Health Center for the past 12 years, and is preformed by licensed acupuncturist Lucas Naden. Lucas Naden, LPAC, the Health Center's acupuncturist for the past two years, also works at Satori Wellness Center in Townsend, Md. As a classic guitar player, Naden decided to study acupuncture after being fascinated by the treatment's ability to reduce his forearm pain and improve his mood. (Inside the Shell/Angela Harvey)
Naden demonstrates the large intestine four, also called He Gu, an energy point that he uses in his treatments. Acupuncture aims to restore and maintain physical and mental health through the stimulation of specific points on the body by penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metal needles.
